Types of Hearing Loss
Conductive Hearing Loss

A conductive hearing loss occurs when there is a problem in the outer or middle ear, and it interferes with the transmission of sound to the inner ear. This loss of transmission results in a decrease in perceived loudness.
Sensorineural Hearing Loss

A sensorineural hearing loss occurs when there is damage in the inner ear, either in the cochlea (where the sensory hearing organ is located), hearing nerve, or auditory pathway. It is the most common type of hearing loss (90% of hearing losses are sensorineural), and it can significantly affect sound clarity. Voices may sound mumbled or distorted. Hearing aids are an effective way to improve the hearing of individuals with a sensorineural hearing loss, as it is not medically treatable.
Mixed Hearing Loss

A mixed hearing loss is simply a combination of Conductive and Sensorineural hearing loss.
